The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

I will be instructing these following classes at the Landscape Arboretum in 2013. For registration and more information visit the Arboretum web site:  http://www.arboretum.umn.edu The classes are under the Learn/Adult Education/Photography tabs. 1. "Outdoor/Nature Photography
               Beginning Level"

Saturday April 20 and June 15, 2013 10:00AM-6:00PM
On this full day of instruction the student will be learning the fundamentals of nature photography. Part of the day will be spent in the classroom learning the fundamentals such as exposure, white balance, histograms etc. The rest of the day will be spent outside shooting on the grounds of the Arboretum  applying the skills that were instructed in the classroom.

2. "Shooting the Light"

 Friday-Saturday August 9, 10, 2013
Class is designed for the photographer that has a good understanding on the operations of their DSLR camera. In the class room we will be discussing "light", and the impact that it has on taking images. We will be spending considerable amount of time outdoors shooting sunset on Friday night and a very early sunrise on Saturday morning!


3. "Winter Light/Winter Photography

 Saturday February 16, 2013 1:00PM to 6:00PM. 
Winter light is so different that at any other time of the year, the goal of this class is to help the student recognize winter light and use this knowledge to improve on their winter photography. Subjects to be covered in class is exposure for snow/ice, working with shadows, snow patterns, dress for comfort, cold weather photography and many other topics. We will be photographing around the grounds of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum.

4. Bird Photography

 Saturday May 25, 2013 10:00 AM-4:00PM
Many of us enjoy bird watching, this class is designed to help you not only enjoy our feathered friends but how to improve on taking images of them. In the classroom we will be discussing many ways of setting up your bird feeders to take better images. We also will be discussing methods, techniques and ethics of bird photography. We will than go outside and begin photographing birds, the arboretum will be setting up bird feeders for us to use. We will also be going around the grounds and photograph birds that we find. This class is designed for the intermediate photographer that knows the basics of their camera and with a minimum focal length lens of 200mm.

5. Photographing Flowers

Saturday June 29, 2013 10:00 AM- 4:00 PM
There is no better place to conduct a class like this than here at the arboretum. In the classroom we will be discuss ways to improve your botanical photography. Topics to be covered ail be controlling light, wind, macro images as well as botanical landscapes. this class is designed for those that have an understanding on their camera's basic operations. Although not essential a macro lens (close-up) would come in handy!

This class is designed for one or two individuals that would like more personalized instruction. It could just be a day of shooting at a location agreed upon or a mixture of shooting in the field and "hands on" class type instruction. A day is considered to be 8 hours and could be divided up into two or three days. Cost: $250.00 ($200.00 each for two) plus any other expenses that would be agreed upon in advance. Each class is personalized so if interested send me an e-mail and we can discuss your interests and how we may work togethor to meet your goal.
